The Gospel

We believe that the gospel stands at the center of all theological discussion and that the person and work of Jesus Christ as Lord is of utmost importance and worthy of protection and prominence in our church.

Christ’s death is a substitutionary and propitiatory sacrifice to God for our sins. It satisfies the demands of God’s holy justice and appeases His holy wrath. It also demonstrates His mysterious love and reveals His amazing grace. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man. There is no other name by which men can be saved. At the heart of all sound doctrine is the cross of Jesus Christ and the infinite privilege that redeemed sinners have in glorifying God because of what He has accomplished. Therefore, we want all that takes place in our hearts, church and ministries to proceed from and be related to the gospel.

The Love of God for People

It was the great love of God for the world that sent Christ to the earth to die on a cross (John 3:16). Man’s corruption was/is deep. Without the intervening work of Christ we would not be saved. In the same way, apart from the intervening work of the Holy Spirit we cannot believe the gospel.

But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13

The great love of God for us is shown not only in his willingness to send Jesus to die, but in his ability to open our hearts to the truth of the gospel according to His perfect will.
