Home Group Spotlight: Lone Star College

In December of 2014, we launched a home group on the campus of Lone Star College- Kingwood. Dedicated to a very specific age group and demographic. Lone Star Home Group reaches and caters to students who stay in the area to attend Lone Star. After one full trimester, we wanted to catch up with the Home Group leaders and share their story!
Tell us about yourselves:
Victor: My name is Victor Palacios. I’m 21 years old. I graduated from Atascocita High School in 2012. I’ve been a member of Providence Community Church for about a year and a half, but I’ve known many of the members for a while so they’re like family. Currently I work at Silver Amusements where I get the privilege to play arcade games from 9-5 or at least that’s what I like to tell everyone, but really I drive around from Cici’s to Cici’s any where from Lufkin to Rosenberg refilling, fixing, and replacing the arcade games. I started attending the College of Biblical Studies right out of high school. Where I am currently working for my Bachelors of Pastoral Ministries. Although I enjoy that, I truly love being part of the Worship Team at Providence, playing drums and running sound. None of that compares to the joys of playing Fifa 15, Boarderlands 2, eating chicken wings, and playing soccer with the guys. No not really, those are only things I enjoy to do in my free time. I also get the privilege and joy to lead Lone Star College Home Group which is multiplication from Ben’s Branch Home Group.
Meagan: My name is Meagan Alexander, I am 20 years old and attend Lonestar College. I like to take pictures, travel, and hang out with my friends.
What makes LSC HG unique?
Victor: Aside from the fact that we are the youngest, wildest, and loudest Home Group? We are a very specific home group that aims to reach a very specific group of people. Those who attend Lone Star College and are around the age of 17-22
Meagan: LSC Home group is one of a kind because our group is so diverse in everything. The ages differ from 17-22, everyone has their own back ground, everyone is aspiring to do their own thing, each person is unique in their own humor and their own likings.
What ways has your HG reached out to the campus?
Victor: This trimester we reached out to the campus by handing out scantrons, blue books, pens, and pencils to students as they took their finals. We felt we could best serve the campus by providing these things to help relieve stress during finals.
Meagan: Our home group has reached out to students at Lonestar by telling others in our classes that we meet, about Lonestar and the PCC. We are working on putting up flyers for campus, we've made shirts to wear that have our information, and we planned a service project to do on campus reaching out to students passing by going from class to class.
How can someone get involved in LSC HG?
Victor: It’s simple, just give us a shout! Come join us on Thursday night at 7 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center room 125 at Lone Star College Kingwood campus. Prayers are more than appreciated, so that we may grow closer to God as individuals, in our HG, and reach out to the campus.
Meagan: If anybody is interested in joining Lonestar Home group, they can get in touch with Victor Palacios or I.
